How to Create Free Domain Websites with Google Sites

This is a procedure on how to create a free domain website with Google Sites - which is one of the services that Google provided for free to use. You can read more information about this free website application from Google at the Google Sites Overview and learn more about its features and some quick facts that you need to know about prior to creating your free domain website. In this free tutorial, I assume that you already have your own Gmail account and you already have logged in to it.
After reading its features and other important quick-facts information about the Google Sites, go to the address bar of your web browser and type in this URL, https://sites.google.com/ and you’ll be redirected to this page. (See image 1 below)

Note: If you’re not yet logged in to your Gmail Account, you can do so by clicking on the “Sign In” button at the uppermost right of your browser.

Step-by-Step Procedure:

  1. Click the located at the upper left side of your browser and you’ll get redirected to the page where you can have an option to select for a template for you to use with your free website. Fill in the information required on the space provided; choose a template, site description, and type the Captcha shown at the space provided. Then, click the.

  2. As for this Demo, I like to choose the “Simple” template. It’s a very good template to use especially if you are still trying to conceptualize the overall content layout design of your website. (See image 2 below)


    Before anything else, you may want to go to the “Manage site” option to set some basic information settings for your website. You can do that by keyboard shortcut “g then m” or you can click on theand hover down to click on the “Manage site” option. Fill in the General information for your website and other personal information. Everything is self explanatory and I assume you already have your own “Analytics Web Property ID” or you can acquire at the Google Analytics and click on the Access Google Analytics box. Same process with the “Verification meta tag” and if you still don’t have it, you can acquire at the Google Webmaster Tools. You need to add your site and verify it through your Webmaster Tools Account. (Note: There are certain steps you need to follow in order for you to verify your website with your own Webmaster Tools Account).

  3. After filling out the General information details in your website, click on the.
  4. Now, if you want to change the layout setting of your website, you can do so by clicking on the and hover down to click on the "Edit Site Layout" option. With this option, you can have the authority to add/remove/modify the Header; Navigation/Sidebar; Menus; Custom Footer; and Site width of your website. This will be at your own preferences to choose for your website.
  5. If you want to modify the current page you are currently viewing now on your website, you can do so by clicking on the. After clicking, it will load the editor options and the page is now ready for modification. From here, you can now add/remove/modify any contents of your webpage by using the control buttons located at the top-most level of your screen similar to the MSOffice Windows Application. You also have access to the HTML source code of your webpage and modify your source code for your webpage.


  6. Adding other property elements of a webpage can also be done through the Insert tab menu. For formatting an element, you can find it through the Format tab menu. Adding tables, through the Table tab menu, Layout for the whole webpage, through the Layout tab menu. Also, this is very important and always remember, whenever you need help ---- there’s the Help tab menu right next to it.
  7. Adding a new page for your website can be done through clicking on the. After clicking, you will be redirected to an option to choose for a template for your new webpage. Fill in the information required on the spaces provided, select a location for your webpage (whether you want it to be on the top-most level of your website or under on a certain page on your website) and then click.
  8. Same process goes for the new webpage added as explained above. After you have complete all the information you wanted to be in your website, you are now ready to publish your website and get “Public on the web” --- With this option, anyone on the Internet can find and access your website without any sign-in required. This would be considered as a public webpage.
  9. When sharing your website, you have certain options and control over your website or webpage like who can have access to it, how can they access it and even you can invite collaborators to edit your website/webpage.
  10. Log out from your account or use your incognito window browser on your Google Chrome or New Private Window for Mozilla Firefox and try to access your newly created/designed free website from Google Sites. If you can access them, then that means your website is now successfully published on the internet.
